Sydney Chiropractic Clinic

Modern chiropractic was established in the 1895 by D.D. Palmer after restoring the hearing to a deaf man by adjusting his neck. Today, Chiropractic is the fastest growing and second largest primary health care profession. Chiropractors work with and enhance the body's natural ability to heal itself without drugs or surgery.

Chiropractors adjust the spine to correct misaligned or "subluxated" vertebrae (spinal bones). It has been shown that subluxations may cause increased degeneration or arthritis where they occur throughout the spine. Subluxations may also cause pins and needles, pain, numbness, and cramping in the arms, hands, feet and legs. Subluxations reflect stress in your body, whether from chemical, mental or physical sources.

techniques

Chiropractic biophysics (CBP)

CBP is the most widely researched chiropractic technique in the world. More articles have been published in scientific journals on CBP than any other Chiropractic technique. CBP involves gentle traction combined with specific adjustments to correct curvature of the spine, and poor posture which studies have shown to be a major cause of arthritis and other degenerative disorders of the spine. CBP is very effective in correcting scoliosis, and for this reason is one of the most popular techniques used worldwide.

Sacro-occipital technique (SOT)

SOT is a gentle low force technique that helps to balance and release tension throughout the spine by focussing on the pelvis and the skull (occiput). One of the functions of the sacrum (part of the pelvis) is to pump cerebro-spinal fluid (CSF) from the base of the spine, back up the spinal canal to the brain and throughout the nervous system. The occiput will also help with this pumping motion of the CSF. CSF acts as the circulatory system of the brain and spinal cord. The nervous system controls our body, and can only function normally when our structures are balanced and our pelvis is stable. SOT is effective in relieving nerve pressure that may be causing arm and leg pains, dizziness and headaches.

Cranial Release Technique (CRT)

Cranial Release Technique (CRT) is a low force technique that seeks to correct misalignments in the skull which contribute to many health problems. Sacrum pumps cerebro-spinal fluid up to cranium and vice versa, bathing the spine and brain with vital nutrients. When the skull is mis-shapen, warped or twisted, this circulation is inhibited, and we do not function properly. Restoring balance to the cranio-sacral system also facilitates whole brain balance. Hans Selye's work revealed that stress is the ultimate source of all disease, which we call subluxation or dysfunction to our central nervous system, the master coordinator of all functions in the body.  Reducing stress to the nervous system allows for clearer thought, easier movement, improved function, reduced pain and dramatically improved posture.

Thompson Technique (drop piece)

Thompson Technique is a full-spine adjusting technique that emphasizes high-velocity, low amplitude, and some low-force procedures, using a specially designed table as the main tool. Thompson technique is extremely effective in correcting posture, improving flexibility and also in promoting resistance to injury, increased strength and improved tolerance to stress.

Diversified and Gonstead

Diversified and Gonstead Technique which was named after Dr Clarence S Gonstead is concerned with identifying the precise vertebrae that is subluxated and applying a force that is enough to cavitate or "gap" the joint; hence correcting the subluxation and relieving nerve pressure and associated muscle spasm. The noise commonly heard during this procedure is gas that is released from the joint as the joint is pressurised. This technique will help pinched or stuck joints, increase flexibility, and promote are general relaxtion of the spinal muscles around the area being treated.

Activator

Everyday wear and tear, old injuries, and even stress can impair the musculoskeletal system. Over 50% of patients that go to a doctor, go because of low back or neck pain. AMCT is the most widely used low force technique in chiropractic. Evolved from nearly 40 years of empirical study and 15 years of clinical research, the Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique (AMCT) uses the latest advances in orthopedic, neurological and chiropractic examinations to seek joint dysfunction in the spinal column and extremities for improved patient care. AMCT uses the Activator Adjusting Instrument to give consistent low-force, high-speed chiropractic adjustments. Over 35,000 doctors have been trained in AMCT and 2,100 doctors are Proficiency Rated, making AMCT the most widely used technique worldwide; a testament to low force patient satisfaction.
